The Sprott School of Business is looking for companies and not-for-profits to host internships for Carleton business students via a matched program with Mitacs.

Background

Working with partners like you, the Sprott School of Business at Carleton University has long been dedicated to making a real impact in the community. In these challenging times, we have a new opportunity—a partnership program that would permit you and the Sprott School to directly support Canada’s economic recovery.

Launched by Mitacs, a national not-for-profit organization that designs and delivers research and training programs in Canada, the Sprott Mitacs Business Strategy Internship (BSI) Program will employ as many as 50 students (undergraduate and graduate) to undertake a four-month economic recovery project this summer and into the fall with organizations of all sizes, including not-for-profits.

Working with our faculty advisors, students will help these organizations restore or modify their business operations in a new environment disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

We Have

Sprott undergraduate and MBA students are bright, driven and eager to contribute. Under the supervision of renowned faculty advisors, students will help address your organization’s most pressing needs amidst the COVID-19 pandemic—developing strategies and providing guidance that will help you recover and thrive.

Carleton University will provide an initial investment of $2,500 per student.

We Need

We are looking to partner with companies and other organizations who are interested in investing in their organizational recovery and working collaboratively with our students during a four-month internship term.

Student interns will receive a $10,000 stipend via the program to cover expenses. We are seeking a contribution of $2,500 per student from partner organizations, which will be matched by Carleton’s $2,500 investment and by a contribution from Mitacs of up to $5,000.

The Impact

The BSI program is designed to directly support Canada’s economic recovery. Through this hands-on partnership, we hope to support the long-term viability of local businesses and to minimize the negative economic impacts of COVID-19—both on your organization and on students who have limited experiential and developmental opportunities amidst COVID-related restrictions.

It’s a win-win; your organization will receive meaningful strategic advice, and students will benefit from the opportunity to apply business concepts and theories in real circumstances.

Timeline

Each internship will have a four-month term and students will have the flexibility to carry out the term on a full-time, part-time or full-time/part-time combination basis. Internships will run throughout the summer, with some extending into the fall.

The Mitacs application deadline is August 31, 2020, so don’t wait—get more information and start a conversation today.
